In 1917, the Aschersleben (Germany) lithographer and knowledgeable philatelist Paul Koch got together with a colleague to found a publishing company for the production of stamp albums. It was called KABE Verlag (KABE publication) after its founder Koch and Bein. Kabe Verlag published stamp albums and high quality folders and binders. One of the company's earliest products was the Springback Binder, in which documents could be instantly and conveniently bound as a book, singly or in batches. The hidden binding could be opened and closed making it possible to add to or rearrange the contents.
